There are some exciting changes coming in our lineup of Kia vehicles, and our team here at North County KIA in Escondido is here to share those changes with you. Replacing the Optima, the new Kia K5 is coming for the 2021 model-year.

One of the new changes to this mid-size sedan will be the option for all-wheel drive. This can give you extra control in different weather and road conditions, and the system actively adjusts the torque between the front and rear wheels as well.

The name change from the Optima to the K5 brings the US model in line with the model names used in Korea. The redesign adds a sportier look to the exterior that's matched with some powerful engine options for Carlsbad drivers.

A 1.6L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission to give you up to 180 horsepower and 191 lb-ft of torque. On the K5 GT, expect a more powerful 2.5L turbocharged option and 8-speed Dual Clutch Transmission.

This wet clutch allows you to get more performance out of your K5 with 290 horsepower and a best-in-class 311 lb-ft of torque. With the option of adding Pirelli P-Zero 19-inch tires to your K5, you will find yourself at home on the track.

The K5 utilizes more advanced, lightweight materials and has a wider suspension for more responsive handling.

Inside the Kia K5, you can expect a wide range of technology and design features that can help you stay connected. A 10.25-inch touchscreen serves as your infotainment hub on the K5 and can be customized to your own preferences. You can connect your compatible smartphone and get navigation, play music, and handle calls and texts on the go.

If your phone has wireless charging, you can make use of the available built-in wireless charging pad in the Kia K5 to keep your device topped off without the added clutter of cables.

Other technology features such as remote start are equipped right on the Smart Key through your compatible smartphone. You can even set the climate control settings from outside of your sedan as well.

The new Kia K5 is equipped with a range of driver-assist and safety features to keep you and your passengers safe. This includes the standard Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist system that's designed to help you avoid potential accidents.

FCA will warn you when it detects a possible collision and can even apply the brakes in situations where you don't react quickly enough. This can help you avoid or reduce the impact of an accident.

Another new edition to the Kia brand is Junction Turning. It utilizes a camera and radar to detect vehicles in intersections to help further avoid a collision.

When you're headed out on the highway, the Smart Cruise Control system, along with Highway Driving Assist is here to help. Simply set the speed and follow distance, and the Kia K5 will take care of the rest. On some highways, the K5 can even take control over vehicle steering remotely as well.

For times when you need help backing out of a parking space, safety features such as Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance comes standard. It can provide both audio and visual alerts when it detects obstacles while backing out.

Others, such as the Blind Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist Rear system, can be vital when out on the highway. It will detect when you're trying to change lanes and warn you when there are other vehicles in your lane.
