Powertrain Options
You'll have three powertrain options in the new Kia Sorento, including a new hybrid powertrain that adds a fuel-sipping variant to this three-row SUV lineup. The standard kit is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine good for 191 horsepower and 182 pound-feet of torque. It is available as either a front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive model so you can choose the drivetrain that best matches your lifestyle. Front-wheel drive models offer up to 24 mpg city and 29 mpg on the highway. Meanwhile, all-wheel drive gives you up to 23 mpg city and 25 mpg on the highway, but giving you some added versatility in exchange for the reduced efficiency.
Upgrading to the Kia Sorento EX and above gives you a 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that churns out an impressive 281 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque. Once again, you'll have both front and all-wheel drive options to choose from, with the two-wheel drive variant delivering up to 22 mpg city and 29 mpg on the interstate. Opting for all-wheel drive gives you the same efficiency in town while reducing highway efficiency just two points to 27 mpg, marking an easier trade-off than with the non-turbo Sorento models.
The new Kia Sorento Hybrid joins the lineup for this year, and brings excellent performance and efficiency to the table. The 1.6-liter turbo-hybrid powertrain delivers 227 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque and comes with both front and all-wheel drive variants like the non-hybrid Sorento models. Front-wheel drive gives you an impressive 39 mpg city and 35 mpg on the open road, while all-wheel drive Sorento Hybrid models deliver 36 mpg city and 33 highway mpg.
